Sam Wirsing earned his second victory in one week against the University of Cincinnati as the 6-foot-6 freshman right-hander limited the Bearcats to two runs and six hits over 5.2 innings in Wright State’s 10-4 win.
The Raiders improved to 12-5 with help from Peyton Burdick (4-for-5, including a triple and a double, and four RBI) and Zach Weatherford (3-for-4, a home run, four RBI and four runs).
Wirsing tossed five scoreless frames at Cincinnati in an 8-3 Wright State victory on March 12. He struck out two Bearcats in the first inning to begin a strong outing.
In the bottom of the first, JD Orr singled and Zach Weatherford followed with a two-run home run.
The Raiders plated three more in the second when Weatherford added another RBI with a single to right which scored Tyler Black from second. Peyton Burdick then lined his second double into left center field which scored two more runs.
The Raiders return to action in an impromptu matchup against Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday from Nischwitz Stadium.
