Wright State baseball to host Youngstown State in three-game series this weekend

After splitting a two-game set with Xavier, the Wright State Raiders return to Horizon League action this weekend when they host a three-game series against Yongstown State.

Wright State is 16-7 overall and sit atop the Horizon League with a 4-2 mark. The Penguins are struggling this season with a 2-21 record, including 1-19 on the road. The Raiders are 8-2 at Nischwitz Stadium this season.

Peyton Burdick has raked all season, leading the team in hits (31), doubles (8), RBI (25), walks (21), and on base percentage (.592). Burdick and Zach Weatherford lead the team with four home runs.

Bear Bellomy and Zane Collins are slated to get starts this weekend. Bellomy has posted a 2-3 record on the season, where he has a 4.64 ERA. He also is second on the team in IP (33.0) and strike outs (25), only trailing Collins who has 34.0 IP and 26 strike outs. Collins is 5-1 on the season with a 2.91 ERA.

Sophomore Jeff Wehler has been an offensive leader for Youngstown State, where he leads the team in hits (21), stolen bases (10), and batting average (.244). Colin Clark leads the Penguins pitching staff with 25 strike outs and 31.1 IP. Friday and Saturday’s games will be featured on ESPN+.

After falling to the Xavier Musketeers in a 10-inning nail-biter at Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday, the Raiders traveled to Cincinnati and pummeled the Musketeers, 10-0, on Wednesday.

Sam WirsingHenry Von Hollen, and Chase Slone combined for a shutout for Wright State. Tyler Black delivered at the plate with four hits, three runs, four RBI, and a home run.
