The Horizon League announced its weekly Player and Pitcher of the week on Monday afternoon, and for the third time this season, a Raider starting pitcher has been named the Pitcher of the Week. Bear Bellomy had a solid outing in a Wright State victory over Youngstown State to start the weekend series on Friday, earning him his first Horizon League honor of the year.
The senior from Teays Valley, West Virginia brought his season record back to 3-3 with a dominating effort Friday afternoon, fanning nine Youngstown State Penguins hitters in seven innings of work, tying his longest outing of the season (Mar. 8 vs. Canisius, 7.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, W). Bellomy surrendered just one earned run in Friday’s effort, also tying his season low (Mar. 22 at UIC and Mar. 1 vs. Western Carolina), which would be more than enough for the Raiders, who would go on to win the first game of the series by a score of 7-1.
Zane Collins (Mar. 4 and Feb. 18) is the other Wright State starting pitcher to have earned the honor of Horizon League Pitcher of the Week this season.
