Wright State looks to continue successful week during three-game series at NKU

After two convincing midweek wins this week over Wofford and Indiana of the Big 10, The Raiders (20-8, 6-3) will be on the road again this weekend, as they will be in Highland Heights, Kentucky to take on rival Northern Kentucky (5-21, 4-5) in a three-game series. Friday’s game will start at 3:00 PM, Saturday’s game will get underway at 1:00 PM, and a noon start time is scheduled for Sunday.

Raiders right fielder Peyton Burdick has paced Wright State’s offense all season, leading him to be named a Perfect Game Mid-Season All American this week. His .417 batting average leads the Horizon League, as well as his .748 slugging percentage, .545 on base percentage, 41 runs scored, 43 hits, and 33 runs batted in. Burdick is one of five near-everyday players hitting over .300 on the season, leading the Raiders to a stellar .298 team batting average.

Bear Bellomy is scheduled to start Friday’s game, coming in with a 3-3 record and a 4.05 ERA. Bellomy was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on April 1 for his performance in last Friday’s game against Youngstown State. Zane Collins will look to add to his 5-2 record when he toes the rubber against the Norse on Saturday. Collins has twice been named the Pitcher of the Week in the Horizon League, and his 5 wins leads all starting pitchers in the league. Bradley Brehmer will close the series off on the hill Sunday, putting his 3-0 record and 5.62 ERA on the line against Northern Kentucky.

The Norse (5-21, 4-5) enter the weekend series losers of their last two, a Sunday loss at home to Horizon League foe Oakland, and a midweek road loss at Miami of Ohio on Wednesday. Redshirt senior Will Haueter leads the Norse on offense with a .299 batting average, and nine of his 29 hits are extra base hits. Starting pitchers for the Norse have not been announced, but Kyle Service would be expected to start one of the three games, coming into the weekend with a 5.09 ERA in seven starts.

All three games of the weekend series will be carried on ESPN+, with links to the video streams available on our schedule at wsuraiders.com.  The Raiders will play Miami Tuesday in the first round of the Joe Nuxhall Tournament at Cincinnati.  UC will take on Xavier that day as well with the winners and losers playing on Wednesday.
